Visiting Professional Fellowships

Visiting Professional Fellowships

The Institute provides Visiting Professional Fellowships to distinguished practitioners and scholars. This rare opportunity can provide leading property experts with the space to write, research and refresh their professional lives, free from the daily pressures of business or university. The Institute's visiting Fellowship is typically held for six-eight weeks annually and the appointed Fellow is invited to share his or her expertise with the students on courses. Sponsorship is sought from major industry players to support this important initiative.

The first Fellowship was awarded in 1999 to Professor James Shilling, who holds the James Graaskamp chair of Real Estate in the University of Wisconsin. He resided in Cambridge for his Fellowship from August to October 1999. Professor Shilling is one of America’s acknowledged experts on real estate finance. His academic stature was given further recognition by Fitzwilliam College, University of Cambridge through electing him to be a Visiting Fellow of the College for the duration of his stay.

The second Visiting Fellowship was awarded to Professor Mark Eppli of George Washington University, DC. He is an expert on real estate securitisation.

The third Visiting Fellowship was awarded to Mr SC Liu, a most distinguished real estate consultant in China, Honorary Professor at Hong Kong University and Chair of the Professional Advisory Board for Real Estates Programme at Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He took up his Fellowship at the Institute in early 2001.

The most recent award of a Fellowship has been to Drs Jacco Hakfoort, head of the Spatial Economic Strategy Unit at the Ministry of Economic Affairs in the Netherlands
