Edward Erdman began his career
as an apprentice surveyor in London’s West End in 1923 at the age of
16. He founded his firm, Edward Erdman, in 1934; led it until his
retirement, and remains a consultant to its successor, Colliers Conrad
Ritblat Erdman.
During the 1939-45 war, he closed his office and served as a Captain in
the Kings Royal Rifle Corps in North Africa and Italy.

He was a director of Warnford
Investments plc from 1962-1974 and a consultant to it until 1998. He
became a Director of Chesterfield Properties in 1960 and was its
Chairman from 1979 to 1998. He joined the Central Council of the World
of Property Housing Trust (now Sanctuary Housing Association) in
1974,became its chairman in 1978 and its Life President in 1987. He was
a member of the Property Advisory Panel to the Treasury 1975 to 1977.
His book ‘People and Property’ was published in 1982.
In December 1999, the Trustees agreed to
donate £25,000 from the
Edward L Erdman Environmental Fund to support the
establishment of the CILI
Edward L Erdman Environmental Library.
