Please remember that the United Kingdom is 8 hours behind Hong Kong..

Clothes and Personal Belongings

Please note that the voltage in the United Kingdom is different, and you will need to bring adapters for both 240v and 110v if you need to use hairdryers or any other electrical equipment.

Remember too, you usually need to make arrangements with your telephone company if you wish to use your mobile telephone in Europe.

If you do decide to bring your laptop computer please be aware that each of the countries we are visiting have different telephone plug sockets and use different systems. It is important to get the right telephone socket attachment and you will need to do this before you leave Hong Kong. The are a number of internet cafés in Cambridge and London
.

If you take any kind of medication regularly remember to bring a supply with you and some form of prescription from your practitioner which you can show to a pharmacist or doctor in Europe should you need a new supply. You need details of active ingredients as brand names may differ. DO NOT ASSUME THAT YOU WILL BE ABLE TO GET YOUR MEDICATION EASILY IN EUROPE.

We recommend that you should have a tetanus injection before coming to Europe

Dress code

This is not a course to bring a lot of baggage. Please remember to pack carefully and not bring too much luggage with you. Most students bring far too much with them and regret having to carry it around airports and stations and in and out of hotels. Most days you will need business casual and casual clothes but we recommend that the females have one business/smart outfit and the males bring a jacket/blazer and a tie. Europe has had a very wet Winter and Spring. I recommend that you check the temperatures for England, during the week prior to your departure on the internet. We recommend in any case you bring a raincoat/folding umbrella with you. One of the most important things, however, is for everyone to have some flat walking shoes - many of the visits make it a rule that only flat shoes are worn.

Spending Money

The programme provides you with a breakfast and at least one other meal per day. You should therefore plan to buy one meal plus anything you may wish to purchase yourself. All your travel, accommodation and academic needs are covered with the programme fee. We will always try to arrange a time and place for you to exchange currency but we cannot guarantee this will be immediately on arrival into the country. We recommend that you try to bring a small amount of each currency with you plus travellers cheques.
